Dreams and aspirations in the South of France

We are Niki and Toby, a British couple who, for many years, yearned for a life in a warmer climate to set up a permaculture project to live in harmony with the land and our wider community.

Toby’s background is in software engineering and geology and Niki’s background is in social work, NGO’s and various eco and humanitarian projects.

Our dreams came true in 2019 when we bought a beautiful stone farmhouse surrounded by ten acres of meadows and woodland in the Lot-et-Garonne region of South West France.

Our place is nestled amongst beautiful woodland, on the famous world heritage pilgrimage Camino de Santiago’s French route Saint-Jaques. Located in the wine growing region of Bordeaux and close to many charming medieval Bastides. Penne-d’Agenais itself is on the river Lot, a medieval town, whose castle was fortified by Richard the Lionheart. The land offers wonderful sunrise and sunset views and the night skies are spectacular. During the spring and summer months, the surrounding fields are blanketed with wild and sunflowers. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, including wild swimming, caves, walks and artisan markets. An immersive experience, particularly visiting the artisan markets and the local vineyards. There is also a cultural and language school in the nearby town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

Visitors can either camp in the woodland or the meadows or book a safari tent. During their stay they are sure to enjoy the sounds of night time wildlife and sleep restfully in a comfortable bed (bedding provided). Visitors also have the choice of cooking on their campfire or using the outdoor cooking facilities.

We warmly welcome you to share our rustic eco retreat, to facilitate or attend courses relating to learning and well-being. You can explore and learn in the stone buildings and shady walnut woodlands, observe the wild surroundings and camp out under the trees near our stone farmhouse.

Homemade food, compost toilets, rustic showers in the moonlight, fresh local produce – come and nourish yourself on this beautiful land.
