SOULSKIN HOLISTICS

Soulskin Holistics at Talbérou offer treatments to optimise a relaxed state of body and mind. Many of our treatments and practices create awareness of stress indicators, thereby reducing the damaging afflictions that can be caused by stress. The unique style of therapy used often combines massage therapy with mindfulness and breathing techniques. The belief is that connecting our senses to our natural environments helps to release tension that can often build up in our hectic lives. Integrating massage therapy with breathing techniques and mindfulness allows us to stay present and to drop out of thinking and into feeling, unblocking emotional tension and negative patterns that can be held in the body for long periods of time. The outcome is a peaceful feeling of mental clarity and calmness that better prepares us to respond to the challenges of everyday life, allowing us to feel balanced, connected and restored for ultimate well-being and happiness.

Soulskin Holistics incorporates many different types of massage to meet a range of needs – from deep tissue massage to pregnancy massage. Also available are yoga classes and nature-based connection where individuals have the opportunity to carry out deep connective and empowering work, generating profoundly positive results on themselves. Soulskin Holistics director and therapist Niki has over ten years of experience, practicing and training all over the world from the banks of the sacred Ganges to the majestic Mayan Lakes in Guatemala and back to her home of birth in the UK in various urban and rural areas in the North of England. Niki is now based at Talbérou in the South West of France where she has set up a space for community health and well-being practices.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Pic

What is it?
Pregnancy massage is similar to Western/Swedish massage. Carrying a baby changes a Mother’s centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on her back, abdomen, neck and shoulders. It is a natural way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness, relieving the discomforts experienced during pregnancy.

What are the benefits?
This type of massage will reduce the stress placed on weight-bearing joints, help to reduce nervous tension, in turn promoting better sleep. It also increases blood and lymph circulation and helps to relieve depression or anxiety symptoms caused by hormonal changes. Some of the other benefits include headache relief by focussing massage on the head, neck and shoulders and muscle tension caused by carrying the extra weight of a baby is alleviated by encouraging blood flow to the affected areas. This will essentially aid the supply of nutrient-rich oxygen and increase the flow of lymphatic fluid that sweeps away toxins and metabolic waste. All of the symptoms experienced during pregnancy are counteracted by the chemical serotonin, a natural pain relief hormone, which is stimulated by massage.

NATURE BASED CONNECTION

Pic

Nature-based connection is born from Eco-psychology, a fairly modern school of thought, which studies the relationship between human beings and the natural world through ecological and psychological principles. Eco-psychology stems from the belief that people are entwined in a web of life, whereby our psyches are not separate from our environment. Eco-psychology is informed by systems theory that provides individuals with an opportunity to explore their relationship with nature by reconnecting with it, an area that is thought to be overlooked in other types of psychology. This a wonderful way for people to take some time out from their busy lives and practice the art of nature connection to help heal mental distress in the most natural way possible. The sessions will focus predominantly on talking and listening, but will also include work with the senses/ yoga Nidra, observation of the land, pranayama/breath work and meditation.
